Have you ever been on the web and looked about for information which are just too complicated to understand or ever wondered how to use the now obsolete MS-DOS or Windows 3.1? It's OK for IT literate guys, but what about the common person? There is plenty of message boards which offer this kind of support, but you ask a question, You either get around 10 different answers, or none at all. 

As time goes on, the old operating systems such as Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98 become obsolete. There just is not many up to date support for them now and learning to work the old windows can be daunting. Some new upcoming IT guys have never even seen so much as Windows 3.1 or know how to work MS-DOS. 

What IT boss has been created for is a site for everyone. What does that mean you might ask? Well basically, If your new to IT and want to choose a career in IT, you will undoubtedly be doing some course at College or University in IT. If so, you will know that the only really teach you mostly how to install Windows XP and above, and configure it. They may discuss previous operating systems but that is really it. One day you might come accross a PC with Windows 3.1 on it, and is asked to repair it. How would you configure it? Nothing is plug and play back in those days. Everything was done manually. Would you turn a job down that could make you money? What if there was a way to configure and repair this system with some help? This is where IT boss would come in. 

Also if you are very new to computers, you switch the computer on, How do you run a program in Windows 7? How do I create a document? Most people are sometimes scared to ask for help because they think people may think they are half daft. We are here to help! 

So what are the plans for IT Boss? We hope to offer:

  • Offer support for obsolete operating systems.
  • Provide How To Reference guides for MS DOS, Windows 3.1 ect. 
  • Offer support and help and information on OS2 Warp
  • Provide information on how to install Windows and Linux Operating systems
  • Offer a community to everyone who can ask questions and offer support. 
  • Create a large database of Help and Support which we create. 
  • Offer downloads of old MS-DOS boot disks to get your system up and running. 
  • Provide up to date screen shots of Vintage Windows.
  • Offer information on how stuff works within your computer. 
  • Explain what components are in your computer and what they do,
  • Learn you how to build a computer!
  • Give information on how to get an e-mail address. 
  • Provide videos on how to do things in your computer. 
We will offer much more but now you might be wondering how the Idea came along? Well here is the story!
 
I was thinking about how the world sees computers and how it is a shame that the old obsolete things are just blowing away in the wind. I am currently doing my HNC in Computer Technical Support at college. I plan to do my HND next year and go on to University. I have a friend who I done the HNC with, but he struggles a lot in the PC world and I have helped him along the way, Despite me just doing my HNC now, I have done IT for years. I was an IT technician a good few years back. I worked on the systems such as Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, MS-DOS, I used to build the computers when to configure your CPU and memory we used Switches and Jumpers. and not just a few values in a CMOS. (Whats CMOS? Get my point?). I have a lot of IT knowledge, in the old days and the new. My friend doesn't but if i can put the information up and he can understand and do the work then you could too. 
 
You might be thinking, there is information out there. You are correct but sometimes you need to search about 20 pages or more for the information. There is so much information out there that is becoming lost. I want it so you pop in the web address and then you can find the information on here. As I said, I hope to provide Pictures, Videos, and instructions on how to do the work. 
 
If the information is not on the site, then we will have the opertunity for you to request the information. I am a good fan of Virtual PC, Virtual PC is like running an operating system within an operating system. That means I can run Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 within my usual Operating System, Hence I can do a lot of work on getting information for the users. 
 
I would recommend getting a Username for the site. This means you could get access to downloads and be able to become part of the community. Guys who are into IT are very welcome. 
 
We are pretty new. So we wont have much, But give us time. The site needs to grow!
